ARTICLE III
PURPOSE AND LIMITATIONS
GENERAL PURPOSES
This Corporation is a nonprofit Religious Corporation and is not organized for the private gain of any person. It is organized under the California Nonprofit Religious Corporation Law exclusively for religious purposes withinthe meaning of section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Notwithstanding any other provision of these By-Laws, this corporation shall not, except to any insubstantial degree, carry on or engage in any activities or exercise powers that are not in furtherance of the purpose of this corporation, and corporation shall not carry on any other activities not permitted to be carried on (i) by a corporation exempt form Federal Income tax under section 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) of the Internal revenue code; and (ii) by a corporation , contributions to which are deductible under section 170 ( c ) (2) of the Internal Revenue code .
3.1 SPECIFIC PURPOSES/OBJECTIVES
Within the context of the general purposes stated above, this corporation shall:
3.1.1 Conduct religious services on routine and regular basis.
3.1.2 Conduct educational programs for adults, youth and children that will explain, inculcate, and further the Sikh teachings and Sikh way of life.
3.1.3 Disseminate information and education amongst the community
About the Sikh religion by maintaining a library and provide books, tapes and other literature.
3.1.4 Provide a place of gathering for the Sikh community of Southern Californiato conduct social programs of general interest and as a means of raising revenue.
3.1.5 Pursue such other goals and activities as may be deemed appropriate by a majority of Board.
3.2 LIMITATIONS
3.2.1 Political Activity
No Substantial part of the activities of this corporation shall consist of carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempt to influence legislation, and this corporation shall not participate in or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements in connection with) any political campaign on behalf of any candidate for public office.
3.2.2 Property
The property, assets, profits and net income are dedicated irrevocably to the purposes set forth in 3.1 above. No part of profit or net earnings of this corporation shall ever incur to the benefit of any of its Trustees, officers, members, employees, or to the benefit of any private individual.
3.2.3 Dissolution
Upon the winding up and dissolution of this corporation, after paying or adequately providing for the payment of debts, obligations and liabilities of the corporation, the remaining assets of this corporation shall be distributed to a nonprofit fund, foundation or corporation which is organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes and which has established its tax exempt status under section 501 ( c ) ( 3) of internal revenue code.
